Arbor – Legge

We were working on the Legge’s home, replacing windows and doing minor repairs, when Carolyn approached me with an idea she had. She showed me a picture of an arbor that she liked. I sketched up a plan and started the project.

What we did

• Constructed arbor on existing deck with fiberglass columns and No.1 grade kiln dried lumber

One of the most important things in the outcome and longevity of a project are the materials used. The arbor is supported by fiberglass columns. They offer the same load bearing strength as wood, and are rot and termite proof. There are many different grades and qualities of pressure treated lumber. Since the arbor was to be painted, we used Number 1 grade,(free of knots and imperfections), and kiln dried lumber. Benjamin Moore exterior primer and semi gloss paint was applied. Since the Legge’s home overlooks the 9th hole fairway, they have received several compliments on their deck.
